Arsenal are reportedly prioritising the signing of striker and a winger in the summer transfer window after their hopes of Champions League glory were dashed on Wednesday night.
The Gunners were defeated 1-0 by Bayern Munich, losing 3-2 on aggregate. The visitors couldn't respond to Joshua Kimmich's opener in the second half at the Allianz Arena.
It was back-to-back defeats for Mikel Arteta's side who will now have to rely on Manchester City slipping up in the Premier League with six games remaining. Despite clear progress being made since the arrivals of Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber in the summer, Arteta has been unable to rotate players and owner Stan Kroenke reportedly recognises more additions will be needed for his side to continue progressing.
In addition to holding an interest in RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko, it is said that Newcastle's Alexander Isak is one of Arsenal's top targets, according to The Guardian. He was reportedly watched by Arsenal before his move to Newcastle 18 months ago.
Newcastle may need to sell players this summer in order to comply with the Premier League's Profit & Sustanability regulations, despite Eddie Howe being determined to hang on to the impressive Swede. He said: «For me, Alex has limitless potential. You’ve got someone who has had really good experiences in his career. He’s travelled as a young player and had some experience of different leagues.
»He’s come to us at a really good time of his career where we can help him, develop his talents and give him a platform to show how good he is. At the moment, he’s building in confidence all the time. He’s a high-level player and we’re delighted to have him with us."
