Former Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar suffered a severe ACL and meniscus injury during a recent Brazil clash against Uruguay, but the prime candidate could be a French knee specialist Dr. Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet, according to Goal and RMC Sport.
Dr. Sonnery-Cottet reportedly boasts a stellar reputation among athletes, having operated on stars like Karim Benzema, Nabil Fekir, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic as well as several high profile skiers. Juventus and former France international Paul Pogba sought his expertise for a knee injury only last year.
Neymar’s current club Al-Hilal are reportdley keen on the French surgeon performing the operation. Dr. Sonnery-Cottet also serves as a consultant at the renowned Move rehabilitation center in Saudi Arabia. However, the Brazilian national team is advocating for Neymar’s surgery to take place on home soil, under the care of their own medical staff – according to RMC Sport. A final decision will be made on the matter over the weekend.
