During a podcast discussion onThe Rest Is Football with Gary Linekar, Micah Richards, and Alan Shearer – Arsenal legend and current France U21 manager Thierry Henry spoke at length about his time with the Gunners. He revealed that Arsenal was where he was happiest in his career, before revealing he considers himself a ‘Londoner’.
“I think Arsenal because everything there changed for me professionally and personally. I always say I’m proud and so happy to be French, but I’m a Londoner,” admitted Henry.
“I became an Arsenal fan and I understood what it meant because of the old guard, I’ll be honest with you. Fans always used to let you know if you were playing bad and I always loved that about them.”
“So they knew it was where I was the happiest. They knew when I was upset, sometimes they would tell me ‘Thierry you’ve been sh*t today’ and I needed that and they knew that about me. It was authentic and I miss that part of the game. I’d argue with Arsenal fans on the pitch, and in the car park, and in town – it’s because we all loved the club so much.”
In 377 appearances the 1998 World Cup winner scored 228 goals and registered 103 assists over two spells which saw him clinch the Premier League golden boot on four occasions and earn a Premier League winners’ medal twice, along with three FA Cups.
