Olivier Giroud was left bewildered after listening to Jamie Carragher attempting to pronounce his name.
The AC Milan star was conducting an interview with CBS Sports following their 2-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain when presenter Kate Abdo asked Giroud a loaded question.
Abdo asked: “I’m just wondering, does it annoy you how Jamie Carragher pronounces your name? Olivier Girood.”
Giving a light-hearted response, Giroud said: “No, Olivier Girood, they’ve been calling me that for nine years in the Premier League.”
Carragher then got involved, saying: “Tell me your name. Let’s pronounce it. I need education.”
Giroud pronounced his name with emphasis on the 'R', saying: «Well, in French it’s 'Olivier Giroud.'”
Abdo and fellow pundit Micah Richards both had a go at pronouncing his name, before Carragher had a go himself, with comically less success.
“Olivier Giloud,» said Carragher, to which Giroud responded: “No, no. Not with an ‘L’. Not 'Giloud'. 'Giroud.'”
Carragher tried again, saying: «Olivier Giwoud,» with the ex-Arsenal striker laughing and replying: “No. No ‘W’. Not 'Giwoud.'”
The ex-Liverpool defender then had a final go, pronouncing Giroud as «Glwoo», an attempt that sent Abdo and Richards into hysterics as the the presenter put her head in her hands and Richards covered his face with a piece of paper.
