The festive season is upon us and that means the countdown until the transfer window opening is well underway. There is just over two weeks until teams once again can make moves across the market, in a month which Chelsea took full advantage of at the beginning of 2023.
On that occasion the Blues signed Enzo Fernandez, Noni Madueke, Mykhailo Mudryk, David Datro Fofana, Benoit Badiashile and landed Joao Felix on loan. Andrey Santos and Malo Gusto were also signed before returning to their previous clubs on loan. Only Jorginho departed from the first team however, leaving a bloated group for Graham Potter to unsuccessfully weird.
Chelsea ensured they did not fall into the same trap in the summer withMauricio Pochettino preferring a smaller group to work with. While the Blues' head coach appeared to call out for transfers in his most recent press conference, any activity would seem to come with the conditions that players also head in the opposite direction.
Pochettino said: «Then there's a massive assessment from the beginning of the season, from day one until today. When the transfer window opens, we will see what we can do. I will not say I need to ask for more player or less player but it's to see if the perception matches the reality. Is expectation here, reality here because we are missing something in the middle. That is the reality, maybe we need to improve our reality.»
