Liverpool legend Ian Rush has revealed he holds regular discussions with Mohamed Salah over his illustrious goalscoring history - but has warned the Egyptian he will only be happy to see his long-standing record toppled if it delivers success to Anfield.
Rush, who enjoyed two stints with the Reds in the 1980s - either side of a sole season at Italian giants Juventus, currently tops the Liverpool goalscoring charts with his astonishing return of 346 goals in 660 games. It is a period in which the Reds won two European Cups and five First Division titles.
Th 61-year-old sits ahead of the legendary Roger Hunt in second place, who managed 285 goals across a glittering 11-year spell at the club. His time on Merseyside was spent under the guidance of Bill Shankly, who transformed Liverpool from second-tier minnows into both First Division and FA Cup winners.
As a result of the incredible numbers inscribed into the Anfield annals, the prospect of anyone ever coming close to Rush's tally seemed unfathomable, and perhaps still does. However, Salah has mustered a gutsy effort during his six years at Anfield so far.

The Egyptian, who last summer penned fresh terms with the Reds on a lucrative three-year contract, has his sights set on one day reigning at the top of the Anfield goalscoring charts, according to Rush.
"I speak a lot to Mo Salah," Rush told Bangladeshi publication, Prothom Alo. "Mo keeps saying why did you score so many goals? He is thinking he might break my record.
