Notts County provided a brilliant social media response to reports Taylor Swift wants to buy the club.
The League Two club were quick to play down the recent rumours and did so in perfect pun-tastic fashion — cleverly using a host of the star’s hit song titles.
A recent tabloid newspaper headline read: “Taylor Swift to buy Notts County — star wants world's oldest footy club!"
But a humorous statement from owners Alex and Chris Reedtz appeared to pour cold water on suggestions the Grammy Award-winning star — and newly announced billionaire — would be taking her business interests to Meadow Lane.
The statement read: “As sorry as we are to disappoint the Swifties in our fanbase, we’re going to have to shake this story off,' the owners responded.
“There’s certainly no bad blood between ourselves and Taylor but, at such an exciting time for us and the club, she surely couldn’t have believed in her wildest dreams that we would relinquish our control.
“We’ll leave a blank space in tomorrow’s pre-match playlist for a track from her newly re-released 1989 album as a gesture of gratitude for her interest.”
Notts County went one better by superimposing Swift’s head onto the body of one of the owners in a picture taken from the club’s National League play-off trophy success, alongside the caption: ‘Taylor’s Vision.’
The global pop star has recently hit the sports headlines owing to her blossoming romance with NFL star Travis Kelce.
Swift has been spotted at numerous games involving Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs and was pictured alongside Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds at a game in New York.
