'Only made aware' - Gary O'Neil addresses Liverpool and Manchester United next manager speculation
Gary O'Neil has rebuffed talk that he could leave Wolverhampton Wanderers to join Liverpool or Manchester United as a first-team coach.
O'Neil, who served as the Reds' under-21s assistant manager at the start of the 2020/21 season before leaving for Bournemouth, has earned plaudits for the turnaround he has overseen at cash-strapped Wolves since replacing Julen Lopetegui on the eve of the 2023/24 Premier League season.
However, it was recently claimed that he could be an outside candidate to replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield at the end of the season, while Manchester United are reported to "want to speak" to the 40-year-old about joining the coaching team at Old Trafford.

Speaking at his press conference ahead of the Premier League's return this weekend, though, O'Neil said that although he is flattered by both links to Anfield and Old Trafford, his sole focus is to be a head coach and he is quite happy in the West Midlands.
"Growing up, Liverpool and Manchester United always felt special," said O'Neil. "It’s an honour to be linked, even if there’s no truth in it.
“I love it here. I’m a head coach, I’m always going to be a head coach. I’m really enjoying my time at Wolves. I was only made aware of it [the links] by the media team to prepare for your questions.”
