Enzo Fernandez made Chelsea fans purr with a ridiculous pass for Argentina on Thursday night.

Life has not been easy for the midfielder since his £106million move from Benfica in January. Fresh from his World Cup win in Qatar, the Argentine was thrown into a circus at Stamford Bridge as the club struggled to finish higher than mid-table.

Fernandez has shown glimpses of brilliance since his big-money move and Chelsea fans will be hoping he can strike a chord with summer arrivals Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia. His talent was on display last night as, midway through the second half, the Blues midfielder played an eye-catching, improvised pass out to the left flank.

With arguably the best pass of the game, Fernandez showcased the vision to backheel the ball over his head and into Angel Di Maria’s path. With no Chelsea match to focus on during the international break, the clip soon went viral among Blues circles on social media.

One fan on Reddit was left mesmerised by the 22-year-old, who made only his 13th cap for Argentina against Ecuador. He wrote: “Absolutely ridiculous pass. Enzo is easily one of the very best freestyle passers out there; his passing variety, awareness and technique are outrageously good.”

Another user commented how, had the move led to a goal, Fernandez would have made one of the all-time great assists. He posted: “If that had led to a goal, we’d have been looking at one of the best assists ever! Absolutely class.”
