Michail Antonio has aimed a bizarre dig at Arsenal supporters for, perhaps, getting ahead of themselves in the title race. The Gunners have been enjoying an excellent vein of form recently, winning each of their last eight Premier League games while also booking themselves a place in the Champions League quarter-final.
Mikel Arteta's side are currently leading the English top flight, but they're being closely followed by Liverpool and Manchester City. On the European stage, Bayern Munich stand in the north Londoners' way – although the Bundesliga champions have been struggling to impress lately.
Arsenal fans certainly have had a lot to smile about at the moment, but Antonio thinks they might be getting too ahead of themselves. Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live Sport's podcast The Players Channel, while trying to hold in a laugh, the West Ham striker said: «Arsenal fans, they annoy me.
»I'm talking about my agent my family and my friends. Because as soon as they are tiptoeing close to [winning] anything, they're the best team in the world. It's actually unbelievable how delusional these people are."
While Antonio poked fun at Arsenal supporters, he suggested their excitement is warranted. He add: «I’ve been saying since the turn of the year City are doing it, but how Arsenal have been performing, they have become the City of the last three years, since the turn of the year.
»They have done the complete opposite of what they did last year when they started the season until December, bossing it, and then, turn of the year, crumbled. Whereas they’ve come to the business end of the year, and they have completely and utterly turned it on."
