PSG will not appeal the sanctions for homophobic chants against Marseille

In an official statement, PSG have confirmed that they will not be appealing the sanctions placed on the club following homophobic chants that took place during PSG’s 4-0 victory against Marseille. The match was marred by homophobic chanting with the French Sports Minister saying that the match should have been suspended.

The LFP have subsequently ordered a two-match closure of the Parc des Princes’ Auteuil stand which houses the PSG ultras. One of these matches has been suspended. Randal Kolo-Muani, Achraf Hakimi, Ousmane Dembélé and Layvin Kurzawa have also been sanctioned for their participation in offensive chants in the aftermath of Le Classique. The PSG quartet have been handed a one-match suspended ban for their participation in the derogatory chanting directed at those associated with OM. The four players have since apologised.

All of the sanctions placed on the club and its players take effect from the 10th of October. PSG’s official statement on the matter released on Thursday evening said, “The club deplores that the committee has opted for an excessive and collective measure likely to undermine the dialogue and prevention work undertaken by the club with associations, institutions and supporters“. PSG’s statement also detailed, “Aware of the importance of the fight and the symbolism, the club will not appeal the decision“.
