Austria boss Ralf Rangnick has ended speculation of his possible appointment as successor to Thomas Tuchel at Bayern Munich.
Rangnick - who was touted to take over from Tuchel at the end of the current Bundesliga and Champions League campaign - has opted to continue with his national team beyond this summer's Euros.
Since departing Manchester United after six months in 2021/22, Rangnick has led the Austrian national team to Euro 2024, where they will be grouped with France, Poland and Netherlands,
It is the latest blow to Bayern's bid to find a new boss after suffering a number of failures in their quest for Tuchel’s replacement. The Germans find themselves level heading into their Champions League semi-final second-leg against Real Madrid.
“I am the Austrian team boss with all my heart.
“I really enjoy this task and am determined to successfully continue on our chosen path,” said Rangnick.
“I would like to expressly emphasize that this is not a rejection of FC Bayern, but rather a decision for my team and our common goals. Our full concentration is on the European Championships. We will do everything we can to get as far as possible.”
ÖFB President Klaus Mitterdorfer said: “We are very pleased about this decision by Ralf Rangnick and the clear commitment to a shared future. We were always very confident that the heart and team spirit, but also the design options, were very good arguments.
“We will all go into the EUROs even stronger together."
“We are extremely happy with his decision. We understood that he had two very attractive options and gave him time to consider everything calmly. We are proud that he chose Austria,” added ÖFB sports director Peter Schöttel.
