Richarlison has revealed that his reaction to being substituted in Tottenham's 2-0 win over Manchester United was due to his frustration regarding his performance. Leading the line for the Lilywhites once again, the Brazil international failed to make an impact on proceedings and didn't manage a single shot on goal in his 70 minutes on the pitch.
"It was more with myself, because I didn’t get any ball there to shoot," said the striker on his reaction to his substitution when speaking with ESPN Brasil after the game. "I have to receive the ball, I have to be close to the goal. I didn’t receive any ball there, so I was more upset about that, it wasn’t for the substitution or anything."
Richarlison has called for patience from Tottenham fans as he looks to find the goal trail. Only managing three in his debut season for the club, the ex-Everton ace now needs to step up his game and score goals on a consistent basis for the Lilywhites following Harry Kane's exit to Bayern Munich.
"During the training I have been scoring goals, I think it is a matter of time for the goals," he stated. "I think the fans have to be a little patient, it is not easy to replace an idol like Harry Kane.
"Like it or not, a match in which I don’t score a goal, they are going to miss him, he is a guy who scored more than 200 goals for the club. It is taking that as an example and trying to score as many goals as possible in a Tottenham shirt.
"For sure, that is why Tottenham paid dearly for me. That is why they put me here, now it is up to me, I have to do the job, I know my responsibility."
