Scott Brown hailed the buzz around Somerset Park after Ayr United's seven goal thriller against Partick last night.

The Honest Men came out on top thanks to Harry McHugh's dramatic late winner in a game which swung from end to end. Brown was thrilled with the effort of his side - which clearly went down a storm with the home support - and noe he wants the momentum to build behind his new-look regime.

The gaffer said: "Since I've come in the fans have been exceptional - they're bouncing off the lads and the lads are bouncing off them. There's a buzz about the place just now but that's nothing to do with me. It's all about the lads' mentality, their workrate and their understanding of what we want. Yes we pick the team and the drills but they're out there on the park and they express themselves.

"There will always be ups and downs but I think the fans realise that. A game like this was great for the neutral but not so much for me having to watch it! Still, we showed great character and mentality to come back and win it and that was really pleasing.

"To come in at half time 3-1 up...you're just wanting to go out and win the second half. We're a bit disappointed with the goals we conceded which allowed them back into it. We'd gone to a back five to try and stop the crosses and deal with the physicality that they had but we switched off a couple of times.

"But we showed that character to go up the other end with Harry getting the winner and you could see the togetherness of the lads all celebrating. Now it's about the mentality of can we go and win two games in a row? Can we produce the exact same performance at Dunfermline because that will be a hard game.
