Sekhukhune United coach Brandon Truter said his team had done their tactical homework and got their plans right as they upset Cape Town City 1-0 away from home in the DStv Premiership on Wednesday.
Chibuke Ohizu’s sixth minute saw Sekhukhune win their second game of the season.
“We've done our homework in terms of the technical structure,” said Truter, whose side had won already at the Athlone Stadium earlier this month when they beat Cape Town Spurs 2-0.
“We wanted to find the pockets between the lines and we had to protect the spaces and then, of course, funnel them wide and then turn it over and get our counter attacks going.
“I think it was a very good from us in terms of the technical discipline and the plan that came together nicely.
“We knew they were going to have space on the side and with our speed and with our ability on the ball, we could create chances. We managed to take one of those chances but I think it could have been two or three,” the Sekhukhune coach added.
“We knew City would dominate possession, we surrendered that and it was an effort tonight. They could have hurt us but also played into our hands in the second half in terms of throwing in the high ball. Congrats to the boys, this result belongs to them.”
Ohizu went off after an hour but Truter said the Nigerian striker had been nursing an injury during the week and the plan was always for him to come off in the second half.
