The awful wet weather over Christmas has brought a great deal of change to many anglers plans this past holiday period, as the seemingly never-ending downpour has seen many opt to stay dry rather than experience getting drenched.
For some, however, getting out onto the banks has also paid dividends, as although it’s been wet, the milder weather has also seen many venues producing fish catches that have surprised even the most keenest of anglers who fish throughout the winter.
Staying local in poor conditions is always a bonus, especially when considering the choice to stick it out or not if things aren’t going your way. But for those keener and more prepared to travel, the decision either way is always crucially important.

One angler who seemingly never falls foul of making the wrong decisions when opting to join a venue is Seaforth rod Steve Parry. Certainly no stranger to the winning rostrum anywhere or with that upon any media platforms as an angling Guru for the company, Parry, also Mainline, made the trip over to Weston Pools in Oswestry on Monday.
In this one, after celebrating a year with many wins to his credit on this fantastic complex last year, Parry started the year off this week with another emphatic win with an incredible 125lb catch.
Opting for a long pole approach at both 13m and 16m, Parry steadily caught Ide and stockies on maggot at 13m for approximately 45lb before tempting 12 big carp for 80lb on bread at 16m to see him notch his win on this superb venue.
