A packed out crowd braved storm Debi this week for an An Evening with Anton Du Beke at the Philharmonic Hall.
The Strictly Come Dancing judge is one of television's ultimate showmen and it was great to see him live on Monday night as he utilised his charisma to command the stage across two entertaining hours. I knew the performer would wow the crowd with the expert dancing skills that have made him a household name over the past two decades.
However, I wasn't aware he also boasted a great singing voice, which he showed off to perform a number of swing hits alongside special guest, Lance Ellington. The two devoted a rendition of Lady and the Tramp to Sir Bruce Forsyth and the whole show channelled the energy of the late, great presenter to deliver a night of joyous old school entertainment.

Although the show has travelled across the UK, Anton's performance in Liverpool still felt fresh as he invited questions from the audience so that the performance is different each night. By his own admission, the dancer confessed he has a tendency to ramble and some of the responses were slightly more long-winded than they needed to be such as when he improvised what it would be like to take part in a rugby scrum.
However, this was all part of the 57-year-old's effortless charm and the crowd lapped it up. Anton also did a great job of making sure the show felt tailormade to a Liverpool audience with a number of references to the city.
