Tasmin McCarter wants Sion Swifts to go all out for success in the remainder of the season
Tasmin McCarter has vowed that Sion Swifts Ladies will ‘have a go’ as they attempt to barge their way into the Sports Direct Women’s Premiership title race.
Victory over leaders Glentoran Women this evening would mean just three points would separate the top three, irrespective of second-placed Cliftonville Ladies’ result against Larne Women.
With just five games remaining after this round of matches, that could set up a thrilling finale to the season for a team that was unsure of their ability to challenge for honours at the start of the campaign.
“We’re maybe not where we expected to be in the table. I think we maybe doubted ourselves a bit at the start of the season,” said McCarter.
“We play Glentoran now and it will be a challenge, but we are well up for it.
“If we can go there and win, it would leave everything open at the top and it could be anybody’s.
“You prepare at the start of the season, but you don’t actually know what is going to happen until you start playing and see where you are at.
“We’ve got a bit more encouragement now, we are a close-knit group and we are starting to believe in what we can actually do this season.”
A run of 10 straight wins and a 13-game unbeaten stretch in domestic competition has sparked that renewed belief in the Sion Swifts camp. The level of performance, McCarter believes, being a knock-on effect of the challenges faced in all-Ireland competition earlier in the summer.
