Manchester United’s Rasmus Hojlund, Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli and Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon have been among the fastest players in the Premier League in the 2023-24 season so far.
The acceleration data has been revealed, and the fastest player at each single Premier League club features some of the usual suspects (Adama Traore, Kyle Walker) alongside some names that you might not expect.
Possessing that special player – whether it be a defender, midfielder or attacker – can be something of a cheat code when it comes to counter-attacks, defending and making up for losing the ball in dangerous areas.
“I’m 32 but I’m not old, I still feel great, fit, bar the injury with my groin before the World Cup,” responded Manchester City’s fastest player, Kyle Walker, last season when asked to explain the secret of his speed.
“I’ve kept myself in good shape, I look after myself off the field. I work in the gym. I have to thank my parents and their genetics, some players start to slow down. One of the sports science lads said I hit 37.5mph, I’m not getting any slower.”
