The Tottenham shirt number Timo Werner could select after sealing loan move from RB Leipzig

Timo Werner will have a whole host of shirt numbers to chose from when he walks through the doors at Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs are set to sign the former Chelsea player on a loan deal from RB Leipzig until the end of the season with an option to buy the 27-year-old believed to be only as much as £15.5m. The German, who is set to travel to Hotspur Way this weekend to seal the deal within the next 48 hours, has lightning pace and the energy to press up front all day long in Ange Postecoglou's system.

While at the Blues, Werner registered 23 goals and 21 assists in 89 appearances for them, meaning a goal involvement in nearly every other game. He was unable to match the remarkable figures from the season before he came to the Premier League, netting 34 goals in 45 matches with 13 assists in that 2019/20 campaign for Leipzig, following on from a couple of impressive seasons before that.

If Postecoglou can get him firing again — he's had a difficult season interrupted by an injury this time around — then it could be a clever deal. If not, then the German will just head back to Leipzig in the summer.

So which shirt number will Werner take on his arrival at Tottenham? During his senior career, the German has worn the number 11 for the past eight seasons at Leipzig and Chelsea. Before that he wore the shirt number 19 at Stuttgart after breaking into the first team.

Both of those shirt numbers are currently occupied at Spurs — 11 by Bryan Gil and 19 by Ryan Sessegnon. There is the chance that Werner's arrival could open the door for Gil to leave the club either on loan or permanently this month but a decision on the shirt number would have to be taken ahead of the next Premier League match at Manchester United on January 14.
