Former Chelsea man Joe Cole believes that Timo Werner «will be electric» off the bench for Tottenham. Following a frustrating season at RB Leipzig with limited football coming his way, Spurs struck an agreement with the German club to sign the 27-year-old on a loan deal until the end of the campaign.
The Lilywhites do also have the option to sign Werner on a permanent basis in the summer for £15.5million if they so wish. Failing to hit the heights at Chelsea after previously scoring for fun during his first spell at Leipzig, the versatile attacker will be hoping to put his previous Premier League woes behind him and recapture his best form.
That could happen under Ange Postecoglou, especially as the Spurs head coach plays a brand of football that plays to Werner's strengths. Looking like he will get a good run in the team at present with Son Heung-min on South Korea duty at the Asian Cup, it's not clear yet where exactly Werner will stand in regards to the starting XI once the Tottenham captain returns from his international exploits.
Speaking on TNT Sports' coverage of Chelsea's Premier League clash against Fulham, Cole believes that Werner will be a good addition for Tottenham and that his best role may in fact be coming off the bench.
«I’m gutted about (Timo) Werner going to Spurs,» said the former England international. «I think he’s a good player. I think he will come into the squad and he will be exactly what they need to give them that little boost. Off the bench, he will be electric for Tottenham.»
