Manager Warren Feeney doffed his cap in the direction of match-winner Junior Uzokwe, but insisted there is more to come from the Glentoran striker.
The 29-year-old former Bohemians striker gobbled up a last gasp goal against gutsy Annagh United at the BetMcLean Oval to punch his team’s ticket to a sixth round meeting away to Ballymacash Rangers next month.
It was game that will not live long in the memory, one that appeared destined for extra-time, or possible penalties, until Junior eased the tension with practically the last kick.
Feeney just couldn’t control his emptions at the finish as he fist-pumped the air in sheer relief.
“We were in a no-win situation,” admitted Feeney. “If anything, it was a banana skin tie for us, Annagh had nothing to lose. I thought they were super, they made really difficult for us.
“They had a good shape about them and were difficult to break down. In saying that, I didn’t think we moved the ball quickly enough, we were sluggish at times.
“Credit to the boys, they kept going right to the end and we showed that little bit a quality right to get us the win. It doesn’t matter whether you score in the first minute or the last, they all count.”
Feeney believes Junior still has more to offer.
He added: “It was a well-worked goal, and finished superbly by Junior. The boy has got ability, but I’m probably his biggest critic… he showed what he is all about with that finish.
“Being a former centre-forward myself, I demand a lot from him. He produced that little bit of class to get us the win, we need to see more of that. It was all about getting into the next round and we done that.”
