In an interview with The Guardian, Former PSG defender Thiago Silva (39) discussed the club’s failings to win the Champions League during his 8-year spell. Silva captained Les Parisiens to 7 Ligue 1 titles during his time in Paris but they could only manage 1 Champions League final. This would ultimately end in a 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in 2020.
The British newspaper asked the Chelsea defender about his time at PSG and their failures in winning the Champions League. The former Brazil international responded, “You’re not going to achieve everything just because you have a lot of money. That is not how football works. If you don’t have a clear plan of what you want, things won’t work out.”
The 39-year-old also commented on the element of being respected in the country you play in but also abroad, “First and foremost, you have to be respected inside your country in order to be respected outside. We didn’t do that. We did the opposite. We wanted to be loved abroad, but we didn’t do anything to be respected at home.”
Thiago Silva left PSG after their 2020 Champions League final defeat to Bayern Munich and joined Chelsea on a free transfer. He would eventually find himself lifting the European Cup a year later as Chelsea were victorious against Chelsea in 2021.
