Thierry Henry has revealed Mikel Arteta's next task if Arsenal want to avoid Champions League disappointment in the future. The Gunners were beaten over two quarter-final legs by Bayern Munich with a 1-0 defeat on Wednesday evening following on from a 2-2 draw the previous week at Emirates Stadium.
Up until last Saturday, Arsenal had endured a superb season and were on course to enter the final few weeks of the season competing for two trophies. However, as they did in April of the last campaign, the cracks have begun to show in the biggest moments with fatigue setting in and in the space of four days the Gunners have seen their trophy hopes take a drastic hit.
Over the weekend, Aston Villa beat Arsenal to leave them no longer in control of their title fate and now Bayern have knocked them out of the Champions League. Following the most recent defeat, Arsenal legend Henry offered his thoughts on the game with a clear message sent to Arteta and sporting director Edu.
«The two goals at home were soft to concede and we all know if you do those mistakes in the Champions League you are going to pay the price,» the Arsenal legend admitted on CBS Sports. «Today wasn't good enough, I would say but I don't think there was much into the game. Both teams, and I have said this so many times, didn't want to lose the game.
»They were not really going for it and there was a moment of I would say bad defending for me, not only for Gabriel Martinelli as it did work at the beginning and I would put Tomiyasu in that, not covering his centre-back and not closing that line, but that's a different ball game.
