Manchester City rarely do major business in January, even if some of their better signings in recent have come in the winter window.
Julian Alvarez was signed in January before remaining on loan at River Plate until the summer of 2022, while Aymeric Laporte immediately strengthened the defence when he signed towards the end of the 2018 window. It seems that Claudio Echeverri will follow Alvarez in signing from River Plate and will also remain at the Argentine club until at least the summer after signing.
Aside from that, it feels unlikely that City will break their usual rule of doing their major business in the summer and going through the season with the squad they settled on in August or September. There could though be some outgoings in order to trim the squad of fringe players who aren't featuring.

Firstly, Zack Steffen's City nightmare is set to end with a permanent transfer back to the USA with Colorado Rapids his likely destination. Steffen hasn't played since his awful FA Cup semi-final appearance in 2022, spending last season on loan at Middlesbrough in a failed attempt to get into the USA squad for the World Cup. Over the summer he underwent surgery ruling him out of another loan move in the first half of the season and a permanent exit is on the cards this month.
