Tottenham handed Champions League boost as Aston Villa receive worrying Matty Cash injury update

Tottenham have been handed a potential boost in their quest to qualify for the Champions League at the end of the season. Spurs are locked in a battle with Aston Villa for fourth spot, although fifth could secure Champions League football given the competition's expansion next season.

Spurs are three points behind Villa with a game in hand, while Manchester United watch on, six points adrift of Tottenham. With the international break in full flow, managers will be hoping to receive a clean bill of health from their players while they take part in matches for their countries.

That has not been the case for Aston Villa though, who have already suffered an injury setback. Poland were in action in a Euro 2024 qualifier on Thursday night, beating Estonia 5-1 to set up a final showdown with Wales next Tuesday.

And Poland full-back Matty Cash was forced off just 11 minutes after entering the fray. Cash has been a regular starter for Villa under Unai Emery and is a name that will grate with Spurs supporters, after it was his tackle that forced Rodrigo Bentancur off injured after only just coming back from a horrendous ACL injury earlier this season.

Cash looked to have suffered a hamstring injury when he ran into a sign while playing. He tried to keep going but then had to stop and get help on the field and was forced off.
