Alejo Veliz is still waiting for his Sevilla loan spell to spark into life. Playing a handful of games for Tottenham in the first part of the season and scoring his maiden goal for the senior side in the defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion in late December, it was decided one month later that the Argentine could depart on loan for the remainder of the campaign.
Moving to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium in the process, Veliz's temporary switch to the La Liga side was seen as the perfect opportunity for the 20-year-old to aid his development and come back to Tottenham a better player ahead of the 2024/25 campaign. With Sevilla nervously looking over their shoulder at the relegation zone, it appeared to be the ideal move as the frontman had the opportunity to make himself a hero and score the goals needed to move Los Nervionenses up the league table.
Arriving in Andalusia not fully fit after only just returning to the training pitch at Hotspur Way in the days leading up to his loan exit, Veliz was always going to need a period of time to get back to his previous levels following the knee injury he sustained in the closing minutes of the win over Bournemouth on New Year's Eve. Having watched on from the stands for the games against Rayo Vallecano and Atletico Madrid in early February, Veliz's first Sevilla appearance came midway through the month when he was introduced for the final four minutes of the 0-0 draw with Valencia.
The striker then realised a dream eight days later as he entered the fray for the last 15 minutes of the 1-0 defeat against Real Madrid at their famous Santiago Bernabeu home, before again coming off the bench for four minutes in their next encounter as they beat Real Sociedad 3-2.
