Tottenham's January transfer priority may have just changed amid Jean-Clair Todibo talks
We are now just over a week away from the January transfer window opening for business. Making some impressive moves in the summer market, Tottenham will be looking for more of the same as they bid for a strong finish to the campaign.
In terms of potential incomings, a new centre-back needs to be top priority with Ange Postecoglou not exactly blessed with options in that area of the pitch at present. football.london reported on Monday that Tottenham have held talks over a potential move for Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo.
The French international has made a huge impression in Ligue 1 over the past couple of seasons and it would be quite the statement of intent if Spurs can get a deal over the line for the 23-year-old. Previously looking like a left-footed centre-back would be required in January as cover for Micky van de Ven, they could well have changed their plan now given Todibo is right-footed.
Ben Davies in recent weeks has demonstrated that he is a very capable deputy to the Netherlands international and his impressive form may have altered Spurs' thinking. As Emerson Royal seems to be preferred to Eric Dier when it comes to taking Cristian Romero's place if he is absent, Todibo could be the player to really challenge the World Cup winner for his role.
