Glentoran boss Warren Feeney is determined to avoid an ‘after the Lord Mayor’s show’ scenario when his team travels across town to face Cliftonville at Solitude on Saturday.
The east Belfast boys produced their best performance of the season with the comprehensive demolition of Big Two rivals Linfield – the Glens enjoyed a crushing 4-0 victory.
Daire O’Connor’s delightful double was complemented by strikes from Shay McCartan and Niall McGinn to earn Feeney’s men their first success of the 2023/24 season against David Healy’s side.
Although former Northern Ireland international striker Feeney could hardly wipe the smile off his face afterwards, he quickly brought his team back down to earth, stating the exhilarating display has set the bar for the rest of the Sports Direct Premiership campaign.

“We must follow up last week’s display with a similar type of performance at Cliftonville,” insists Feeney.
“There is no point doing it for one game, that’s what we must strive for on a consistent basis.
“I knew we had that type of performance in us. That must now kickstart our season, we’ve got good players at the football club. I hear everyone talk about our squad, but I explained to the boys, they’ve got to do it on the pitch.
“We showed great energy and hunger... we played with great intensity. The secret is getting that out of them every week on a consistent basis.
