Liverpool & District Angling Association held the third round of the Individual League on Sunday. This one pegged from the start of the association’s length water at the Saracens Head, back through to the Ship Inn.
For the canal match angler, these competitions offer everything on this circuit. And it’s certainly telling, when the matches, carefully put together by Mike Dickson who is the association Match secretary welcomes anglers from right across the Northwest joining him.
With six matches in all, taking the best five scores counted from the results accumulated throughout, this one certainly isn’t for the faint hearted with the huge amount of talent lined up on the towpaths for these competitions. Taking top honours on the day was Warrington’s Paul Kennils.
A key member of the Liverpool Angling Society Match group. Kennils made no mistake in this one, as he put together a superb net of roach and perch, including a lovely fish just over 2lb. All on caster down the track short for a weight of 9.11.0.
This was Kennils’s second match win over the series so far, which, on the form he’s in, will, I’m sure give him the confidence to look at the next round very favourably. Also making the trip worthwhile and taking second overall position also with an important section point was Rochdale’s John Leeds. Leeds, a member of the Tricast squad took an all roach catch also using caster for 8.10.0.
Leigh man Anthony Lloyd, also with Liverpool AS, was pegged near the ‘cut in’ at Plex Lane and he opted for a bread approach for roach for 6.12.0. That weight just good enough to hold Jan Verbruggen’s 6.10.0 to fourth place.
