James McClean confronted by Mansfield fans following Wrexham’s away win in FA Cup
Republic of Ireland centurion James McClean was filmed arguing with Mansfield supporters minutes after Wrexham’s FA Cup first round win last weekend.
As the Welsh side walked off the pitch after their victory, McClean was seen in heated discussions with one opposition supporter who had walked down to the side of the pitch before a second home fan attempted to hop the fence and was stopped by security as the team made their way down the tunnel.
While it’s unclear what caused the argument, McClean’s teammates and some staff members stepped in and helped the 34-year-old into the tunnel.
The Derry native has been jeered on Remembrance weekend by some supporters in the past due to his refusal to wear the poppy, but it remains unclear what caused this particular incident post-match at Mansfield.
After Hollywood-backed Wrexham booked their place in the second round, the Ireland international was applauded off the pitch by the away support.

Last month, McClean announced that he will retire from international football, with this month’s friendly at home to New Zealand set to be his final appearance in a green shirt.
He has won 103 caps since his debut in 2012 and made his 100th appearance against Gibraltar in June. Republic of Ireland boss Stephen Kenny names his squad this Thursday for this month’s clashes with the Netherlands and New Zealand.
At club level for McClean, Wrexham are third in League Two with 30 points from their opening 16 games, while the Welsh side have been drawn to play National League side Yeovil Town at home in the FA Cup second round.
