Ryan Christie told how ropey Scotland row referee Serdar Gozubuyuk was in a muddle over disallowing Scott McTominay's goal - as it emerged the Dutchman was censored by his own FA after another hugely controversial VAR cock-up involving current Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers.
The 37-year-old whistler became public enemy No.1 with the Tartan Army after disallowing a Scott McTominay free kick in Seville which UEFA initially stated was for a foul before changing it to offside. If no one in the stadium knows what the decision’s been given for, then it can’t be clear and obvious. We keep hearing from everyone that these things have to be clear and obvious.”
But he was slaughtered last year in the Netherlands for not going to his monitor during the high-profile showdown in the Eredivisie between Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven. PSV were 2-0 up with just four minutes left when Ibrox striker Dessers headed in a lifeline for Feyenoord before ref Gozubuyuk awarded a penalty for the Rotterdam club for handball against Mauro Junior in the sixth minute of injury time, which was converted by Dessers.
