'What I like about it' - Jurgen Klopp lifts lid on Arne Slot as Liverpool set for appointment

Jurgen Klopp believes Arne Slot is the ideal candidate to replace him at Liverpool and says he has been impressed by the Dutchman's enthusiasm for the role.

The 45-year-old is set to be appointed as Klopp's successor at Anfield after the Reds agreed a compensation package worth up to £9.4m with Feyenoord on Friday night.

Slot has made no secret of his desire to take over the reins at Anfield in recent days, which Klopp admits has not only impressed him but will make his exit from the club this summer slightly easier.

Speaking to TNT Sports before Liverpool's Premier League clash with West Ham United on Saturday, he said: "What I like about it first of all is that he says that he really wants to be the manager here. I like that a lot.

"That is exactly the way it should be. It’s a sensational club that deserves a manager full of energy, full of knowledge and what he has. His team plays really good football. I am happy. The better the hands the club will be in for the next years, the better it is for me."

Slot has been in charge of Feyenoord since 2021 and last season guided the club to its first Eredivisie title since 2017 as they finished seven points ahead of PSV Eindhoven. However, despite trailing PSV by nine points this term, last weekend Slot led the Rotterdam outfit to Dutch Cup success as they defeated NEC Nijmegen 1-0.

"It seems clear to me that I would like to work there," Slot said on Thursday when quizzed over links to Anfield by ESPN.
