Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez was forced off after only 30 minutes in the Carabao Cup clash with Newcastle United on Wednesday night. The Argentine midfielder has sparked concerns that the Blues could face yet another injury issue during the festive period.
The Argentine was named in the Blues' midfield alongside Moises Caicedo for tonight's quarter-final. However, he was replaced by Armando Broja after half an hour in another injury scare for Mauricio Pochettino.
Sky Sports have claimed the midfielder is feeling unwell. Fernandez walked straight down the tunnel alongside assistant manager Jesus Perez and other members of staff.
The 22-year-old was seen holding his thigh as he spoke with Pochettino at half-time. This suggests that Fernandez has indeed suffered a muscle injury, but it is unclear how long he could be sidelined for.
The Argentine international was named amongst the substitutes last weekend as Chelsea picked up a crucial win against Sheffield United. Fernandez did come on in the second half, but now he could be facing a spell on the sidelines after being withdrawn in the first half against Newcastle this evening.
