Chelsea head coachMauricio Pochettino has admitted that the job at Stamford Bridge has been tougher than he expected when he first took the hotseat in the summer. It comes as the Argentinian manager comes under increasing scrutiny for poor results his side have suffered this season.
The Blues currently sit in mid-table, having struggled to gain any consistency in their play so far, suffering more defeats (eight) than wins (six) this campaign. That is despite the huge fees spent on improving the team from last season, in the hopes of securing at least a European finish.
It will need a huge turnaround to do just that, with few signs that such a run will be coming, especially after defeat to Wolves at the weekend. Poor defending led to giving away two goals, one to Mario Lemina and the other to Matt Doherty, while plenty of chances went begging despite a first finish for Christopher Nkunku in blue.
It has naturally put plenty of pressure on Pochettino to turn things around, with some huge games coming up during a busy new years period. Next up is Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge, with a win potentially propelling them up the table but a defeat dragging them back into the mid-table pack.
Speaking ahead of the match against the Eagles, the head coach admitted that he has found the job tougher than he expected. «We knew it was going to be tough this year but never [this tough]. Because of all the circumstances you are describing [injuries and suspensions], it makes the situation worse.
