Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has claimed that despite being a week into the January transfer window, the executives at the club are yet to discuss with him what players to bring to Stamford Bridge this winter.
After spending more than £1billion over the last few windows since the arrival of new owner and chairman Todd Boehly and his BlueCo. consortium in May 2022, there's been a significant lack of transfer activity so far in January by the Blues who have only let go of young players on loan or seen those already away from the team return on a short-term basis in order to find them new homes.
The likes of youngster Alex Matos has seen his impressive cameos under the Argentine boss land him a six-month spell at Huddersfield Town while Andrey Santos' disastrous stay at Nottingham Forest has meant the star notched just seven minutes of Premier League action away from Chelsea this season.
Young left-back Zak Sturge has also been recalled from his loan at Peterborough United although it's thought that's also in order to find him a club he's more suited to. However, while there's been talks of the likes of out-of-favour Ian Maatsen and even potentially acting captain Conor Gallagher leaving the Blues over January, there's not been much in the opposite direction — a surprise given how Chelsea have often operated over the last few years.
As reports claim that England international and former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is unsettled out in Saudi Arabia after his summer move to Al-Ettifaq and could look for a return to the Premier League, the calls to bring in an experienced outfield player or two have been louder than in previous windows given the young, raw nature of this Chelsea squad.
