Jamie Carragher has revealed the provocative text message Gary Neville sent to him after Jurgen Klopp announced he would be stepping down as Liverpool manager at the end of the season.
The Reds boss shocked the football world with the news last week that will bring to a close a near nine-year spell on Merseyside.
For Liverpool fans, his announcement was met with an outpouring of emotion approaching - if not explicitly - grief, as they were met with the reality of the departure of a coach who presided over an impressive period of success.
However, ever keen to land a blow on his old rivals, the ex-Manchester United defender Neville was less than sympathetic following the revelation.
Carragher shared the message that he received from his Monday Night Football co-host in Thursday episode of the Stick to Football podcast.
'I wake up and I get the Klopp news.' The Reds legend said. '[Neville] then text me saying he’s in the same place skiing. I was like oh no.
'Can I read you what he sent me? I am in Courchevel. Your manager is f***ing off and that’s you lot f***ed for another 30 years.'
Indeed, the fortunes of Liverpool and Man United have been mirror opposites over the last decade, with the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford and Klopp's arrival from Borussia Dortmund in 2015.
During his tenure, the Reds claimed their maiden top-flight title in a generation, as well as the Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup. Those achievements made the German the first Liverpool boss to complete a sweep of the major trophies on offer English football.
Neville added: 'On a serious note, I think he is the most exceptional manager and someone who is not just been brilliant for Liverpool but unbelievable for the Premier League.
