Newcastle star Kieran Trippier is open to joining Bayern Munich this month, talkSPORT understands.
Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel recently put right-back Trippier top of the club's January shopping list.
The Bundesliga champions have now opened talks with the Magpies after reaching a verbal agreement with the England defender.
Newcastle are unlikely to entertain a loan deal, but could be tempted by a permanent sale at the right price.
The Magpies are keen to bolster their finances amid profit and sustainability concerns.
Trippier joined Newcastle in January 2022 in a £12million deal from La Liga side Atletico Madrid and was a key figure in the Toon Army's late-season winning run to steer them clear of relegation.
Since then, the 33-year-old has become a first team regular and regular captain in the absence of Jamaal Lascelles.
However, questions have been raised over the form of Trippier this season amid a dismal run of results at Newcastle.
After announcing losses of £73.4million in their latest financial results, CEO Darren Eales has suggested that the club may look to sell players in order to balance the books.
Speaking exclusively to talkSPORT earlier this month, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe admitted player trading is something his club will have to become accustomed to in the near future.
«I don't think there's any surprise in that because every football club will have to trade now with Financial Fair Play being such a prominent part of football,» he said.
«So selling players and trading is part of what every football club is going to have to do and we're no different. So whether it's our top players as you quote, that remains to be seen but selling players and trading will be part of football going forward now I think.»
