Romeo Lavia looks set to be the next new recruit in the Mauricio Pochettino transfer revolution at Chelsea. The Argentinian has already added Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, Axel Disasi, Lesley Ugochukwu, Robert Sanchez and Moises Caicedo this summer.
Chelsea will be hoping to complete a deal to sign Lavia from the Saints before the weekend, so the teenager can make his debut against London rivals West Ham United on Sunday. However, they may not be able to do that.
He said: "I think you know, it's well known that we've had some significant interest in Romeo, we've had an offer which we accepted from Liverpool. Then Chelsea came to the table.
"So we're currently in negotiation with Chelsea now so it's a real tricky period for Romeo. But I'm confident that something will get done in the next week or so or in the next few days."
The 'next week' part of that statement suggests an agreement is not imminent and would mean Lavia missing out on making his debut against West Ham. If it is done in the 'next few days', however, he could be in the squad for that London derby as Premier League rules stipulate players must be registered by 12pm on the working day before the game - that being Friday.
