James Tavernier was not allowed a penalty retake for Rangers during the clash with as he didn't beat David Marshall AND the VAR team felt no Hibs players were in the box.
It was an action-packed afternoon at Ibrox as the Scottish Premiership emerged from cold storage following the international break. Philippe Clement's side were awarded a first-half penalty when Nectarios Triantis jumped to head a corner away but collided with John Souttar as the centre-back attempted to head the ball towards goal.
Referee David Dickinson initially waved play on but Andrew Dallas in the VAR room sent the man in the middle to the pitchside monitor to review the incident - which allowed Tavernier the chance to score the opener. That was only the start of the drama as the captain was denied by the Easter Road No. 1 - before Scott Wright netted the rebound.
But following another VAR review, it was judged that Wright had a foot in the box when the skipper struck the ball as he was tracked by Rocky Bushiri. After several more minutes, the wide man saw his goal chalked off.
Many expected that Rangers would be allowed to retake the penalty - but Hibs were awarded a free-kick to restart the game. That falls in line with IFAB rules - with only penalties that are scored giving the attacking side a second chance.
When there is encroachment from an attacking player and the ball finds the net the penalty is retaken. However, when it is missed or saved a free-kick is awarded to the opposition.
