Summer friendlies have become a fixture in the United States, with top clubs all across the globe traveling to the U.S. to play matches which increase their profile in the States and prepare their players for the coming season.
Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid have both made their way to the U.S. to play matches this summer, along with many Premier League sides and UEFA Champions League clubs from the so-called 'big five' leagues.
Fans all across the nation have been afforded the opportunity to see games between European clubs – and while the matches don't present the same competitive atmosphere that in-season matches provide, supporters can still watch their favorite players participate in games that are important to them from a long-term perspective.
However, one such match has been nixed at the last minute. An infection around the Barcelona dressing room rendered their entire team unable to participate in their friendly on Saturday, July 22 against Italian side Juventus in San Francisco.
