The FIFA Women’s World Cupgame between the Netherlands and the USA promised to be good before the match- and it didn’t disappoint.
The two teams, who also contested the 2019 final, squared off in a Group E encounter which ended in a 1-1 draw.
There was plenty of action, and Dutch star Daniëlle van de Donk was involved in much of it.
First, she was involved in a heated exchange with her Lyon teammate, Lindsey Horan during the game and then suffered a nasty injury.
The USA’s Horan and van de Donk patched things up after the game, but their exchange wasn’t the only reason van der Donk started to trend after the draw.

FootballAs noted by Give Me Sport, she suffered a nasty clash of heads with Rose Lavelle late in the game and needed treatment. While Lavelle walked away unscathed, van der Donk sustained a cut on her head.
Medics patched the player up but then bizarrely gave her a swim cap to wear over her bandages.
She wore it for the remainder of the game, and photos of her in the swim cap soon started to trend on social media.
