Everton have got one of the smallest squads in the Premier League so when injuries come along, they often bite.
The Blues are hoping to secure their first win in the competition in over two months when they take on Crystal Palace at Goodison Park on Monday night but just who will manager Sean Dyche be able to count upon?
Currently there are at least five members of the Everton senior playing staff with known question marks over their fitness so here is a rundown on what we know about their respective conditions.
Abdoulaye Doucoure
Given that Doucoure is Everton’s top scorer this season with six goals and the team haven’t won any of the half dozen Premier League matches he’s missed since going off at half-time in the 2-0 win at Burnley on December 16 with a hamstring problem, Dyche will no doubt be eager to get his talisman who he has dubbed the Blues’ “Johnny on the spot” back as soon as possible. The 31-year-old has featured in just one of Everton’s last 11 games – the goalless draw at home to Aston Villa on January 14 – before suffering a fresh hamstring injury in his other leg.
Following the Blues’ last fixture, the 2-0 loss at reigning champions Manchester City last Saturday, Dyche said: “We will hopefully have better news during this week on Douc as well being out on the grass.”
Expected return date: Monday, fingers crossed.
