Out-of-favour PSG midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum (32) is attracting interest from Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq, according to a report from Sports Zone. The Dutch international is surplus to requirements at Paris Saint-Germain. The former Liverpool midfielder never really made his mark in the French capital since his arrival on a free transfer in 2021. He featured 38 times for Les Parisiens, registering three goals and as many assists. Wijnaldum was allowed to spent the past season on loan at AS Roma. Unfortunately, he missed the better part of the campaign with José Mourinho’s side after breaking his tibia last summer.
Now, upon the end of his season-long loan to AS Roma, Wijnaldum has returned to Paris Saint-Germain, with which he is still tied over a contract set to expire in 2024. The 2019 Champions League winner with Liverpool is training with PSG’s so-called “undesirables”. Wijnaldum reportedly suggested the Ligue 1 champions terminate his contract, but PSG refused and set a €6m price tag for his signing. Now, Sports Zone reports that Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq would be keen to acquire his services, but as a free agent. The outlet understands that Gerrard and the club’s marquee signing of the summer – former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson – would welcome Wijnaldum with open arms. PSV and Al-Shabab are also said to keep an eye on Wijnaldum.
