Eni Aluko has hit out at social media firm X, claiming the platform 'allows people to vomit their hatred unchecked' after being verbally attacked by Joey Barton.
The TV football pundit has received a slew of sexist abuse from the former Manchester City star in recent months amid his tirade on women working in the men's game.
Barton has savaged Aluko alongside the likes of Lucy Ward - shockingly calling the pair 'the Fred and Rose West of football commentary in a reference to the two infamous serial killers - while Alex Scott and England keeper Mary Earps have also been targeted in his posts.
His jibes saw Aluko claim she was 'genuinely scared' before leaving the country to work as a pundit on the African Cup of Nations last month and she is now seeking legal advice following his 'defamatory' remarks.
That included bizarre allegations that her family used 'dodgy money' to pay for a lavish lifestyle.
Now Aluko has spoken out about the abuse she has suffered online and believes X - formerly known as Twitter - should do more to clamp down on 'hatred'.
'This is a societal issue where we have a platform [X] that is allowing people to vomit their hatred unchecked,' Aluko told the BBC. 'And then on top of that, I think there is an intention to monetise and incite more hatred to promote a podcast.'
Aluko also claimed trolls wanted to make women and black people in sport feel 'inferior' and that they are waiting to see them make a mistake to fuel their agenda.
'It's an attempt to really project inferiority on women and on black people. Because it's not just specific to football, right? This is a generic experience,' Aluko said.
