Jermaine Pennant has made a passionate case for Manchester United starlet Kobbie Mainoo to start for England against Belgium and joked he will throw something through the TV if he sees Jordan Henderson feature.
Mainoo is in line to make his first start for the Three Lions at Wembley on Tuesday, having made his debut against Brazil last weekend.
Gareth Southgate still has much to consider with the final midfield spot alongside Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham going into the European Championship this summer.
And Pennant believes that selecting Henderson, a player whose talents the England manager is very familiar with, will make little sense and could even spark 'uproar', with so little time left until the tournament in Germany.
'If I see Henderson, something is going through the TV.' The former Liverpool winger said on talkSPORT's Sports Bar.
His co-host Jason Cundy said: 'I have got a feeling - Southgate is a creature of habit - it would not surprise me at all if you see Henderson.'
'Oh there would be uproar.' Pennant replied before Cundy continued by hailing Mainoo's suitability for the position.
Pennant added: 'This is why this is the perfect scenario, it's not a qualifier, it's not in the Euros, it's a friendly.
'So if he can handle this and play as he's been playing for Man United, then you go, "Right, another little experience for him, perfect, just what you want from these young players."
'Rather than putting Henderson there who is a veteran who we know what we're going to get, he's not going to be exciting, it just doesn't make any sense.'
Henderson, who left the Reds last summer before enduring a miserable short stay in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ettifaq, has been a regular for England under Southgate.
