Sean Dyche believes Everton’s attempts to see out a much-needed win were made harder by a new set of baffling decisions.
The Blues overcame Burnley after Dominic Calvert-Lewin charged down Arijanet Muric in first half stoppage time and watched the ball rebound into the net. Dara O’Shea’s straight red card for a foul on Dwight McNeil as he was about to burst through on goal made the task easier but this was still a match that ended in nerves.
That might not have been the case had further decisions not gone in Everton’s favour, Dyche said.

Dyche pointed to two key incidents as he questioned the latest big calls to go against Everton. Disappointment over contentious, high-profile decisions over Christmas led to Everton supporters writing to chief refereeing officer Howard Webb to seek clarification over the treatment of the club. His response before Easter shed little light and was followed with frustration that Calvert-Lewin was not awarded a penalty at Bournemouth when he was brought down by Tyler Adams. The game, which Everton went on to lose, was goalless at the time.
On Saturday, Dyche believed Sander Berge should have been shown a red card when Beto went down under pressure on the edge of the Burnley box. Dyche said he had watched it back and did not believe the foul was inside the area, but had referee Michael Oliver given a free-kick it would have marked an acceptance Beto was through on goal after being played through by Andre Gomes’ well-weighted ball. In the closing minutes, Dyche also believed James Garner was fouled in the box.
