Former Premier League goalkeeper Ben Foster has defended Liverpool No.1 Alisson Becker following his display in their 1-1 draw at Manchester City - and explained why Chris Kavanagh was right to chalk off Ruben Dias' goal.
Alisson Becker had a rare off-day during the top-of-the-table showdown as he made some uncharacteristic mistakes. Phil Foden squandered a first-half shot on goal after the Brazilian's clearance was sent straight at the England international. There were also some question marks over Erling Haaland's opener and Alisson's involvement.
The Liverpool shot-stopper looked to spark a quick counter-attack, with one of his rushed kicks searching for Mohamed Salah, but he miscued the punt, with the passage of play ending with the Norwegian firing low into the bottom corner.

Alisson did get a hand to the effort, but didn't get the desired contact to steer it around the post, as Haaland smashed another Premier League record with his 50th goal in 48 games.
Man City thought they doubled their lead midway through the second half when Dias prodded home from Julian Alvarez's corner, which slipped through the grasp of Alisson. However, Manuel Akanji was adjudged to have fouled the Reds keeper when challenging for the ball.
Jamie Carragher was among those questioning the decision, describing it as soft. Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher has agreed with the on-field decision, however, and now Foster has provided a goalkeeping point of view.
