Ange Postecoglou remained coy when quizzed on Timo Werner's future at Tottenham Hotspur. The German striker joined the Lilywhites from RB Leipzig in January, and his solid performances have put him in the spotlight for a permanent deal.
While Son Heung-min was away on international duty and Richarlison nursed an injury, it fell to Werner to give the Spurs attack some extra oomph. Playing both up front and on the left wing, he's been vital to the team.
Werner really made his mark in Saturday's 2-1 victory over Luton, where his presence made Issa Kabore score an own goal and he helped set up a late winner by his captain. When asked about Werner sticking around, Postecoglou insisted a decision will be made 'at the appropriate time'.
«In terms of his future, like most players, the decisions will be made at the appropriate time,» said the Tottenham boss. «I think he's been a great signing. He's been a really important part of our structure and I think he can also improve.»
Werner jumped ship from Chelsea last year to get back to the Bundesliga, but he didn't make as big a splash as in his previous go-round at Leipzig. Getting wind of his availability, Spurs swooped in January to grab the 28 year old as a fall-back.
However, the Guardian has reported that a buy option for Werner was also included in the deal, ranging from £12million to £17m. This option can be activated before the loan period ends.
