Arsenal and Chelsea among 10 Premier League clubs who voted against EFL proposals

Arsenal are among ten Premier League teams who voted against a financial deal to support the English Football League, according to a recent report.

The top-flight clubs met on Monday to vote on a potential deal that could help the 72 EFL clubs. However, the vote didn't even happen after half the league decided it wasn't worth discussing — and there is talk of a potential legal fight against the Government, reports the Mirror.

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur were among the clubs to have opposed giving more money to the EFL. They were joined by Liverpool, West Ham, Aston Villa, Wolves, Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth. The idea of scrapping the deal completely was brought up in a meeting involving the clubs.

It has been reported by theDaily Mail that the idea of one club being asked to give a rival financial help — which could then be used to help them get promoted at the expense of a team that has funded them — is 'unpalatable' and 'unworkable'.

An independent regulator is coming in the near future, and if they try to force the clubs to pay, they are reportedly ready to go to court. It's been claimed that the aforementioned Premier League clubs believe the legal fees would be much less than the extra £836m over five years they would have to pay.

The Football Governance Bill is expected to be introduced next month, which will provide the authority to enforce clubs to comply with financial regulations. After it's introduced, though, it still may take until even after a General Election to become law.

The Premier League offered
